It's enough to not wait for the flip and start with next frame and in
the same time minimized latency which helps display-sync modes, that are

This implements a ASS context menu to be used on platforms other than
Windows.
The select script message will allow selecting an item with a single
click when releasing a mouse button, like in native context menus. This
is mainly useful to cycle pause with one click.
On Linux, we have `mpv.desktop`, and on macOS, we have `osxbundle`, both
of which handle file associations and protocol registration in the
system environment.
On Windows, this information is stored in the registry, so this commit
adds support for it.
It registers the application, supported file types, and supported
protocols, and adds an uninstall entry so users can remove all
registrations via the control panel. Note that this does not remove the
binary itself.
The implementation is fully portable. There are no external installers,
as mpv handles everything automatically. This should improve usability
when moving binaries and so on.
- `mpv --register` registers mpv (see verbose output for a list of actions).
- `mpv --unregister` reverts all changes made during installation.
- `mpv --register-rpath <string>` allows specifying a string to be
prepended to `PATH` before running mpv. This is useful when using
external dependencies that shouldn't be added globally to `PATH`.
It would be nice to expand all path arguments for free in the option
code, but life isn't so simple. Because of string list options, we have
to expand at parsing time. Because of libmpv, mpv_global has to be
passed around a million places. Even after doing all that, there's still
a drawback where anything defined in builtin.conf (used for setting
default profiles and such) will be unable to correctly resolve paths if
the user uses --config-dir. Nothing currently defined in builtin.conf
would be subject to that and it's not likely that anyone would add
anything that would be, but it's a limitation that can't be changed
because this has to be parsed before the user's command line and before
mpv_global is set. There's also another problem of pretty printing paths
which are now always full paths instead of relative ones. It's not so
nice if the user's home path is something very long. This could be dealt
with by saving an unexpanded path in some field in the opt somewhere and
then doing that for pretty printing but with all this extra
complication, it's questionable if there's really any net gain at the
end of the day. Calling mp_get_user_path on some opt->whatever is a lot
simpler and always works. So this commit goes back to the old model
along with the following reverts/reapplies.
This reverts commit 9b7374ea40.
Since the option system now handles all the path expansion
automatically, these recent changes can be reverted for simplicity.
This reverts commit be15be3a83.
Unfortunately, I've already done most of the legwork on expanding paths
manually in the code everytime we encounter one of these options, but it
is completely possible to do it during the option parsing/copying. All
option value setting should go through m_config_set_option_raw at some
point, so this is a good target place to put this logic. Additionally,
the M_OPT_FILE flag already exists for any option that is meant to be
have path values as arguments, so we just needed to add an m_option
method to do this. Fundamentally, this is exactly the same as
m_option_copy except that we potentially expand the value string. A new
expand function pointer is now added and we implement it for the two
option types where this is relevant: OPT_STRING and OPT_PATHLIST.
Furthermore, a m_option_copy_and_expand wrapper is added to handle which
function pointer should be used. With this change, this means that all
path values located in any opt->value pointer should automatically be
expanded and users of the value no longer have to manually do this
themselves. Of course, that means that there's now a ton of redundancy
in the code that can be eliminated. That will be cleaned up in the next
commits.
During the original PR, that was true but mp_normalize_path was changed
in 0755edb327 to allow NULL talloc_ctx.
Deleting the comment was forgotten since it was never true when the
commits were merged, so do it now.
This code got shuffled around over the years but fundamentally it was
first introduced in 2c22fcd350 to fix a
parsing issue with specifically the af and vf options. Syntax like af*
and vf* used to be valid and this was part of dealing with that case.
Later 50008adf4a completely changed this
and ripped out support for the wildcard behavior. But these few lines to
deal with the special case were never removed. The token splitting has
been unnecessary for years and is confusing, so clean this up and
finally remove it.
There is a usage of m_option_parse which exactly mirrors the intention
of the helper function m_option_set_node_or_string. Instead of
duplicating the logic, just call the m_option_set_node_or_string
instead.
It's easier for potential callers of this to convert char to bstr than
vice versa. Internally, the function uses bstr anyway so just eliminate
the conversion and let callers do it. The next commit will add another
caller of this where the bstr param is preferable.
The decision was based on incorrect assumption that this option
"only opens a connection to the next file, and the cache of the next
video starts empty", a prequisite of the assumption that this option
has no major drawbacks, including incurring unwanted network traffic.
The assumption can be proven incorrect by testing with networked files
in playlist. With log level set to debug, the following lines are shown
after the next file is prefetched, while monitoring of network traffic
shows constant network traffic after the currect file cache reading
reaches EOF, which triggers prefetching:
[cplayer] Opening done: <url to prefetched file>
[lavf] select track 0
[lavf] select track 1
[lavf] EOF reached.
[ffmpeg] AVIOContext: Statistics: 37139315 bytes read, 0 seeks
It is clear that saying "there is nothing to prefetch after the first
frame" is a complete lie: in fact, it fetches the whole file to the
demuxer cache, according to the demuxer cache settings. And when the next
file plays, it also starts with full cache rather than "an empty cache".
In fact, what this option really does is written in
556e204a11: --prefetch-playlist calls
demux_start_prefetch() which does the same thing as the
--demuxer-cache-wait option:
"Before starting playback, read data until either the end of the file was
reached, or the demuxer cache has reached maximum capacity."
This is exactly what is happening with the testing. This option will indeed
cause large amount of unwanted network traffic - a concern raised in the
discussion concerning this option.
Revert this commit since it's based on incorrect assumption, and subsequent
incorrect conclusions derived from it in the subsequent discussions.
This reverts commit 978b219889.
Most users of this function doesn't expect it to return NULL, with
exception of Stereo-3D video mode. Which is a list directly linked to
Matroska specification, and used as value check in demux_mkv and also
when printing format.
There already was a MP_STEREO3D_NAME_DEF macro, so just promote this to
more generic function.
Fixes assert on invalid value found by OSS-Fuzz.
Fixes double evaluation in MP_STEREO3D_NAME_DEF macro.
I'd rather not argue about which is better so go back to status quo,
users can use the more sensible option of "simple" if it doesn't break
anything (which it won't).
Using simple has benefits of growing memory usage slower and much faster
OSD rendering when complex isn't needed.
Simple breaks rendering complex glyphs like Material font icons
Fixes: https://github.com/tomasklaen/uosc/issues/1086
Fixes: f24611980c ("sub/osd: add osd-shaper and set it to simple by default")
This is a change in default for libass with harfbuzz enabled, previously
it would choose the best available shaper.
Harfbuzz isn't really needed for mpv's OSD and it comes with a
significant performance penalty, so use simple instead
When converting list options to strings and the value is empty, an
empty string is returned. This is true for key value list and object
settings list options. However, for string list options, there is an
edge case: if the list exists but has no element (which can happen
when using change-list command), it behaves as if the property does
not exist and returns "(error)". This causes confusing messages when
toggling glsl-shaders at runtime and seeing "(error)" printed as the
value when all shaders are toggled off, for example.
8461143ed7 attempted to fix it, which
fixed the case for unset string list, but not for a list with no
element.
Fix this by making sure an empty string is returned in this case.
It was suggested by CogentRedTester in
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/pull/10282#issuecomment-1858727729 and
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/pull/10282#issuecomment-1858809580 and
by avih that making running commands an mp.input client is a better
architecture.
A practical advantage is that completions are calculated in a different
thread, which prevents hanging when completing slow/network filesystems.
script-binding console/enable becomes script-binding commands/open,
though the console one is kept as an alias. I took the opportunity to
rename this because open makes more sense for a graphical modal, and it
is the word used in mp.input and user-data.
script-message-to console type becomes script-message-to commands type,
though the console one is kept as an alias. It is also changed to
automatically close on submit without having to append '; keypress ESC'
as you don't need to keep the console open after running prefilled
commands.
Also convert to double quotes like other scripts and rename some
inconsistent functions.
This relaxes what bbac628a1b introduced.
Although it is rare, there may be scripts out there that depend on the
old timing. We'd still like to process config files in a sane manner and
not cause OOMs so keep the general coalescing mechanism in place but use
it selectively. There is one special case with the --input-commands
option. We want this coalesced as well so some special handling needs to
be added for that.
It is easy to craft a config file that loads a profile recursively. To
prevent this, not only check the depth of the current inclusion but also
ignore already-seen profile names.
The relative time chapter is 1-based even though it stores
0-based values internally, but the printing doesn't consider
that and gives 0-based value.
Change it to use the same base as setting the value so that it prints
the same value as being set.

--prefetch-playlist improves performance by starting to read the next
file in the last second or playback or while viewing an image. This is
obviously noticeable with playlists of direct media URLs, but can also
make a difference on local slow hardware, mainly large (in bytes) images
on HDDs. You can easily see the difference with 10+ MB images.
Since e7a253614c and 24db17d10f fixed niche issues, and it's known not
to cause other issues by users using since 2017 who haven't reported
issues, enable it by default to improve performance.
The only flaw is that it doesn't support ytdl-hook URLs, so in Youtube
playlist, it does a web request with ffmpeg that is doomed to fail since
the last second of playback, though this doesn't cause practical
disadvantages.
This adds --video-aspect-method=ignore to replace --video-aspect-override=0.
--video-aspect-override=0 and --video-aspect-override=-1 will no longer be
handled specially. For compatibility, 0 is mapped to always use ignore
and -1 is always mapped to always use container.
"no" is now the replacement for --video-aspect-override=-1, which is
internally remapped to -2 to avoid using a deprecated value.
This is poorly implemented and will break existing scripts which set
the value directly with double without a string value, like
mp.set_property_native, or if the value is set with add/multiply commands.
Revert this until a better solution is found.
This reverts commit cb91de2a34.
With the upcoming fixes to FIFO in wayland, it should be preferable to
use FIFO instead of our own hacky heuristic. This means
--wayland-disable-vsync should become a tristate option with an "auto"
behavior (not implemented in this commit). The semantics have to
slightly change so introduce --wayland-internal-vsync and deprecate
--wayland-disable-vsync.
Enabling IME by default can cause problems when the player is
expecting keybinds and not text input. Windows IME implementation
mitigates this by switching IME to alphanumeric mode,
but this is impossible on Wayland with the text input protocol.
Disable it by default and add a note to recommend enabling IME only on
demand, like console.lua.
Having path -> path in the log is kind of useless. If someone happens to
call this on memory://, it will also flood the log with garbage. Only
log it if the path actually gets expanded.
Updating input-commands string list causes all commands to be rerun.
This happens during load-config-file command, so even with few commands
it is easy to amplify single command to run hundreds of times instead of
one. This causes timeouts and OOMs when specific command for example
reopens current playlist appending an item.
Also avoid even single input-commands, we want to test load-config-file
parsing and input-commands can do loadfile and trigger heavy code
paths. We don't want to mix this. Unfortunately parsing of
input-commands will not be tested.
It's unfortunate that it is implemented this way since changing it will
take time. This option should *really* be like OPT_CHOICE but with
doubles and not integers. We don't have that though and implementing it
is something for the future. Even if that was done today, this still
couldn't be switched to since setting -1 has been the effective way for
years to undo video-aspect stuff. So the approach is to just add another
special keyword for this and tell people to use that instead. Note that
setting 0 isn't deprecated since M_RANGE(0, 10) is totally fine and
would work in the future if this option type ever gets redone.
Setting this to M_RANGE(-1, 10) meant that you could pass fractional
negative values without it being an error. This is, of course, nonsense.
-1 is the only special negative value with a meaning. Error out if we
get anything else by doing some additional parsing before we send it off
to parse_double which will then restrict the range to 0, 10 with these
changes. Note that this approach requires defval to be there which is
not the most extensible thing in the world. But there's literally only
two OPT_ASPECT type options out of the hundreds we have so not a big
deal. Ideally, this type should be OPT_CHOICE but with underlying
doubles but that's too much effort to implement cleanly.
